Home Birth
Homebirth practice is the primary service of Mama Moon Midwifery. A homebirth plan involves clinical care under a licensed midwife from prenatal through birth, and into the postpartum and newborn care. Our What Midwives Do page explains this service in more detail. The out of pocket cost for homebirth is $4700, with options to bill insurance out of network. Medicaid is fully covered with a $500 copay.
Prenatal Care Only
In some instances, homebirth is not a safe choice. This may be due to a high risk pregnancy, or simply not feeling comfortable with a homebirth setting. For clients who desire the care of an out of hospital midwife but for whatever reason cannot deliver at home, we offer a la carte prenatal care for a $2000 out of pocket cost. Medicaid is accepted for this service with no out of pocket copay. This service covers a routine visit schedule, bloodwork and lab orders, and ultrasound ordering if needed. We will work to collaborate with your chosen hospital provider. Prenatal visits happen in our office in Waukesha.
Postpartum and newborn support only
One of the services most lacking in our current medical model system is postpartum support in the weeks following the birth of a baby. This service is available in home for families with a newborn for an out of pocket fee of $1200 and includes a minimum of 3 home visits by the midwife over the course of 1-2 weeks. These visits are typically an hour long, and include physical and emotional assessments of the birthing person and weights and physical assessments of the newborn. Lactation support is considered an included part of this service. Medicaid is only accepted for clients who have obtained an HMO exemption for themselves and baby prior to their birth.
Doula Support
This service is offered for clients birthing in hospital for an out of pocket fee of $2000. Medicaid does not cover this service. Included is a birth planning appointment in office, and attendance of labor and delivery at the hospital of your choice. Doula support includes in home assessment at the onset of labor, help in determining when to go to the hospital, and support in hospital through the first hour following delivery.
